Routine Processing and Automatic Detection of Volcanic Ground Deformation Using Sentinel-1 InSAR Data: Insights from African Volcanoes

چکیده

Since the launch of Sentinel-1 mission, automated processing systems have been developed for near real-time monitoring ground deformation signals. Here, we perform a regional analysis 5 years over 64 volcanic centres located along East African Rift System (EARS). We show that correction atmospheric signals arid and low-elevation EARS volcanoes is less important than other environments. find amplitude cumulative displacements exceeds three times temporal noise time series (3?) 16 volcanoes, which includes previously reported signals, two new ones at Paka Silali volcanoes. From 5-year series, uncertainties in rates are ?0.1 cm/yr, whereas associated with choice reference pixel typically 0.3–0.6 cm/yr. fit using simple functional forms classify seven volcano as ‘linear’, six ‘sigmoidal’ ‘hybrid’, enabling us to discriminate between steady short-term pulses deformation. This study provides framework routine InSAR on continental scale. focus data from EARS, but could be expanded include satellite or global coverage.

Ground Deformation Mapping Using Insar

SAR interferometric data can be used for extracting three dimensional information of the earth’s surface by using the phase part of the radar signal. In this study, available SAR interferometric data acquired before and after the Marmara earthquake of 1999 and provided by ESA were used for mapping the ground deformation in the satellite line of sight (LOS) in the Izmit province. The interferome...

Applicability of InSAR to tropical volcanoes: insights from Central America

Measuring volcano deformation is key to understanding the behaviour of erupting volcanoes and detecting those in periods of unrest. Satellite techniques provide the opportunity to do so on a global scale but, with some notable exceptions, the deformation of volcanoes in the tropics has been understudied relative to those at higher latitudes, largely due to technical difficulties in applying Int...

Monitoring Landslides and Volcanic Deformation from Insar Techniques

Our research has shown that interferometric SAR techniques can be used to monitor deformation at landslides and volcanoes under specific conditions. Special filtered interferograms are being used to reduce speckle and minimize errors created by vegetation. InSAR images were used to monitor current post slide motion along existing fault lines at the Frank Slide a 30 x 10 m rock avalanche, in the...

Deformation monitoring using Sentinel-1 SAR data

This paper describes the data processing and analysis procedure implemented by the authors to analyse Sentinel-1 data. The procedure is an advanced Differential Interferometric SAR (DInSAR) technique that generates deformation maps and time series of deformation from multiple SAR images acquired over the same site. The second part of the paper illustrates the results of the procedure. The first...
